Literary Onomasticon: Female Names of Belarusian Literature

An exhibition “Literary Onomasticon: Female Names of Belarusian Literature” works in the Museum of the Belarusian Book-Printing.

The exhibition represents the most significant female names of the Belarusian Literature through the printed editions, artworks and songs of the Belarusian authors. Among the names one can find some known from the historical chronicles, such as Euphrosyne of Polack, Anastasija of Sluck, Barbara Radzivil, Salamieja Rusieckaja.

Further centuries are represented by Alajiza Paškievič, Larysa Hienijuš, Jaŭhienija Janiščyc. Talent of the female authores Volha Ipatava and Liudmila Rublieŭskaja inspires wonder especially as they write historical novels about strong women.

The exhibition also tells about vivid female characters, created by imagination of the Belarusian writers. Some of them such as Hražyna (by A. Mickiewič), Vieranika (by M. Bahdanovič), Paŭlinka (by J. Kupala) etc. had become symbolic. And the main name of every person’s life is Mother (Mum, Mummy), which is also a very popular character in the Belarusian literature.
