16.02.2023. Opening of the personal exhibition of graphics “Between Scylla and Charybdis” by Yuri Yakovenko

On February 16, 2023, the opening of the personal exhibition of graphics “Between Scylla and Charybdis” by the famous Belarusian artist Yuri Yakovenko took place in the Art-gallery “Vysokoe mesto”.
The exhibition was prepared jointly with the Belarusian Union of Artists.

The elegant beauty of the execution, the richness of subtle allegorical subtexts make the etchings of Yuri Yakovenko understandable and close to everyone who is immersed in the past, like the author himself. His works are distinguished by high technique of execution. Conflict, contrast, the juxtaposition of the creative and the destructive, the aesthetics of lines and spots on paper – that's what the author is primarily interested in.

The exhibition "Between Scylla and Charybdis" presents several new series of the artist. One of the most striking series of "Jason and the Argonauts" is the historical and semantic associations of myths and legends of Ancient Greece, which at the same time are not direct illustrations to the content of the works themselves.

Constant creative search, appeal to various graphic materials and techniques contributed to the formation of Yakovenko's own artistic style, determined the choice of such labor-intensive techniques as etching, mezzotint and aquatint.
