Free mobile audio guide “Walking through Polotsk Historical Centre” is available in Belarusian now

In March 2021, Polotsk National Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve launched a free mobile audio guide "Walking through Polotsk Historical Centre" in Russian. More than 2000 people have already used it during their walks around Polotsk. The next step was the development of a Belarusian-language version of the audio guide for amateurs of ancient city’s history and culture.

The audio guide in Belarusian will take you through the squares and streets of ancient Polotsk and get you acquainted with the history of many monuments and memorial sites located in the historical centre. During the excursion, you will visit the Upper Castle, the Lower Castle with Ivan the Terrible’s rampart, Sophia Cathedral, the former Lutheran church, Svoboda Square’s ensemble, the buildings of Nizhne-Pokrovskaya Street, etc.

The audio guide “Walking through Polotsk Historical Centre” is available on the izi.TRAVEL platform. To access the tour, install the app on your smartphone and open the tour. You can run it online using the mobile Internet, or pre-download the tour on your phone and run it on the spot in offline mode. You can also choose the language of the audio guide - Belarusian or Russian.

The mobile audio guide has several advantages. Firstly, you are not limited in time - you can “visit” the excursion at any time convenient for you, make a stop to look into a museum or souvenir shop, relax in a cafe. Secondly, you don’t need any additional devices, maps or guides because the entire audio guide fits in your mobile phone. Thirdly, you can independently adjust the excursion according to your interests: completely walk the route from the starting point to the final point, or simply walk through the historical centre at a free pace, running the application in the background - the story will be automatically loaded when approaching the object.
