13 th November — the legend Emilia Plater was born

Countess Emilia Plater was born in November 13th, 1806. She was a Belarusian-Polish–Lithuanian noblewoman and revolutionary from the lands of the partitioned Commonwealth. She fought in the November Uprising of 1830–1831 against the Russian Empire.

Emilia Plater became one of the symbols of the November uprising. This symbol, a girl who fought for her Motherland, gained great popularity in the territories of the former Commonwealth, as well as abroad. Adam Mickiewicz immortalized Emilia in his poem "Death of a Colonel" (1832):

"Now save us, Heaven! It is a maid!
Emilia Plater slumbers there!"
