As it is known, Peter the Great was a real collector, bibliophile and guide. He never stored up his treasure, so he organized a cabinet of curiosities that the Emperor presented to foreign ambassadors and Russian magnates.
Our children's and grand-children's collections… What is it? Is it a picturesque mountain containing sweetie papers, stickers, toys with seashells or… something else? It's something that broadens the mind, makes a child more attentive, thoughtful and observant, isn't it?
In the village of Vetrino on July 1 the grand event took place - the opening of a memorial plaque on the reinforced-concrete pillbox №9, where soldiers and commanders of Vetrinsky defense unit fought up to the last-ditch on 3 July, 1941. The opening started with the meeting with the participation of the well-known writer, historian and ethnographer Karasev Viktor Romanovich, the Head of the Museum of Combat Glory Kopyl Sergey and others. After unveiling a commemorative plaque the present laid wreaths at the foot of the pillbox. Then a small concert program was held.
Starting from May 9, 2016 the exhibition "The price of the occupation" will be open to visitors of the Museum of Combat Glory. Visitors will be able to get acquainted with the materials reflecting the period of the Nazi occupation of Polotsk, its consequences for our city, the first activities of the Soviet authorities to rebuild the city. The exhibition presents objects from the museum collections of documents, documentary photographs, prints, objects, history of technology, bonistics.
One-day exhibition "Museum of Combat Glory narrates ...." was opened in the building of Polotsk district executive committee on February 25, 2016. On the same day Report-back election conference of Polotsk regional organization of the Belarusian Public Association of Veteransin was held in the Great Hall of Polotsk regional executive committee. The participants got acquainted with the exposition of the exhibition dedicated to the heroism of simple Soviet soldiers in the World War II. This topic is close to all the generations of Polotsk, but it is particularly relevant for the veterans.
There is nothing more enchanting than expectancy of a New-Year's Day. Perhaps, it is the only holiday that maintains atmosphere of mystery and wizardry. And this is nothing age-specific, because a Christmas tree always brings back sweet memories of childhood. What kind of New-Year's tree decorations do you like the most? Of course, there are so many of them, and each of them has its own charm: there is special attraction in Christmas balls, you can stare forever at stylized strobilas, icicles and flashlights.

A personal exhibition of tapestry and graphics by Ludmila Petrul and sculpture by Maxim Petrul was opened at the Art gallery of Polotsk National Historical and Culrural Museum-Reserve. Ludmila Petrul is the famous master of textile. Her works are very romantic, lyrical and her style is varied and interesting. She enhance the expressiveness through making a pile relief, volume and tapestries using weaving and embroidery, through the inclusion of various other parts. This exhibition also shows some interesting graphical works naming “A man in a town.”
A personal exhibition of two famous artists Valery Slavuk and Georgy Scripnichenko was opened at the Art gallery of Polotsk National Historical and Culrural Museum-Reserve.
V. Slavuk is called “Belorussian duerer”, because his creativity is fantastic and his imagination is rich and inexhaustible. His works can help with studying of the Belorussian fairy tales. Images of Valery Slavuk are funny, scary, kind, evil, thin, big, hairy, clumsy, toothy - various. Every detail is very important.

The Children's Museum is pleased to present the exhibition of cinematic appartus "Laterna Magica" (from collection of Polotsk National Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve) as a part of celebration of the 90th birthday of belarussian cinema.
The exhibition starts working on the 15th of December.
A personal exhibition of paintings by the very famous artist Ninel Schastnaya was opened at the Art Gallery of Polotsk National Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve. Creativity of this artist is diverse and multifaceted. She created a lot of wonderful scenic, graphic, decorative works. Today there is a good chance to enjoy the works of Ninel Ivanovna Schastnaya and ensure her originality.
The exhibition runs until 25 November 2014.
А personal exhibition of paintings by the famous artist and designer Nugzar Paksadze from Latvia was opened at the Art Gallery of Polotsk National Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve with the support of the Consulate of Latvia in Vitebsk. The artist presented a landscape painting which attracts magnificent beauty of places where he lives. His works is characterized by contrasting accents of light and shade, sun glare, juicy and strong smear pasty filling the canvas emotionality. Nugzar Paksadze believes that picture can change the world. The exhibition runs until December 7, 2014.

In early August, the Museum of Local Lore will open the unique exhibition of stone miniatures from the collection of Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local History. Cameos and intaglios depicting heroes of Greek and Roman mythology, portraits of famous statesmen and public figures will be presented at the exhibition "Art in the Stone". Gems from the private collection of the first Vitebsk Provincial Museum director A. Brodovski will occupy a special place among the exhibits. This exposition will include the famous "Headless Horseman".
